Quando a Fotografia surgiu oficialmente, em 1826, a imagem captada pela câmara obscura de Niépce era em tons de cinza. Hoje, praticamente dois séculos depois do feito, a fotografia em preto e branco ainda está em auge.

O preto é a cor do absolutismo, do poder; concedendo elegância e superioridade. O branco transmite o oposto, tornando-se a personificação de pureza e delicadeza e ampliando os sentidos de espaço e percepção. Cinza, a cor mais presente em toda a imagem monocromática (ironicamente chamada de “preto e branco”), representa a estabilidade e o equilíbrio.

When photography officially came up in 1826, the captured images by the dark camera of Niepce were basically in tones of gray. Presently, two centures after, black and white photographs are still “in”. Black is the color of absolutism, power; it holds elegance and superiority. White is just the opposite, representing purity, delicacy and amplification of the senses of space and perception. Gray, the most present color in all the monochromatic images, ironically named “black and white,” stands for stability and balance.
